Service: Experience

April 2018 - April 2019

ENGINEERING SENATOR | IOWA STATE STUDENT GOVERNMENT

  • Elected to serve as a liaison between Engineering Student Council, students, and Student Government 

  • Introduced and voted on legislation to improve Iowa State and help students 

  • Represented students for issues regarding Iowa State Trademarking and funding student organizations 

  • Authored and passed legislation for reducing plastic bag consumption on campus 

  • Authored and passed legislation to make all Student Government documents gender-inclusive 

  • Authored and passed legislation to promote civic engagement in the Iowa 2020 caucuses 

  • Authored and passed legislation to increase Iowa State’s commitment to renewable energy and establish a university task force with specific Green goals and deadlines 

  • Served on Sustainability Committee: voted on Green Initiatives Funding, wrote resolutions pertaining to sustainability on campus, met with campus administrators and staff persons to discuss the future of energy production and consumption on campus 

  • Served on Diversity and Inclusion Committee: supported campus initiatives that advocate for inclusivity in ability, race, ethnicity, gender, sex, sexuality, religion, nationality, and more; worked with campus departments like career services to help them better serve minority student populations; established a Diversity and Inclusion Committee for the Iowa State Career Services Council 

  • Received award for 2019 Senator of the Year

AMBASSADOR | IOWA STATE HONORS PROGRAM

  • Educated prospective students on the benefits and requirements of the Honors Program 

  • Recruited high school students to the First-Year Honors Program 

  • Volunteered time and talents for Honors events and student engagement 

July 2016 - May 2018 

COMMUNITY ADVISOR | RESIDENCE DEPARTMENT, IOWA STATE UNIVERSITY, AMES, IA

  • Acted as a live-in resource for residents 

  • Developed student’s academic, social and leadership skills 

  • Served on the hiring committee for CAs and Hall Directors, trained in non-discriminatory hiring 

  • Trained to respond to bias incidents, harassment, discrimination, sexual assaults, mental health issues, and other common student issues 

  • Completed official training for the Cleary Act, Title IX, FERPA, Food Safety, and sexual harassment  

  • Performed security checks to maintain a safe living environment  

  • Led a cabinet of 12 residents who planned and executed programs for their peers 

  • Mentored the Wallace-Wilson Hall council in Robert’s Rules and best leadership practices 

  • Advanced the living standards of the Towers Community by advocating for better food service, building safety, and program diversity 

  • Pioneered multiple programs related to social justice that challenged students’ assumptions and biases 

  • Served on the Community Advisor Advisory Board to advocate for employee rights and concerns 

  • Received 2017 Most Valued Community Advisor

TREASURER | CARDINAL SWING SOCIETY

  • Managed club finances and membership 

  • Partnered with the community to expand swing dancing by hosting dances and lessons 

  • Secured live bands for dances; processed their payment and contract 

  • Implemented more membership benefits and increased membership by 150% 

  • Taught weekly lessons to classes of 10-50 people 

Fall 2015 - May 2018  

VOLUNTEER CHAIR, TREASURER | CIRCLE K INTERNATIONAL SERVICE ORGANIZATION

  • Attended executive meetings, planned and executed a 5K race, organized service events 

  • Completed risk management tasks, event authorization, mass email requests, and funding requests 

  • Managed thousands of dollars and established a club budget 

  • Contributed to the community through food drives, serving meals, raking leaves, and making blankets 

January 2016 - January 2019

TEAM LEADER VOLUNTEER | FIRST LEGO LEAGUE

  • Acted as an ambassador for middle and high school LEGO robotics competition teams visiting Iowa State for the state championship

  • Volunteered time and labor to set up and tear down the competition

  • Represented women in engineering and encouraged youth to continue in engineering
